The Newest Technology in Dermal Fillers - EVOLENCE.

The newest dermal filler product was just cleared by the FDA earlier this month, and it is called EVOLENCE.

Woman Receiving Injection in Cheek
Image details: Woman Receiving Injection in Cheek served by picapp.com

EVOLENCE is actually the first all natural dermal filler developed with a proprietary technology that mimics the formation of our body’s own collagen for natural looking results that last. The filler lasts at least six months, and results are seen almost immediately following just one treatment. EVOLENCE is most recommended for the correction of moderate-to-deep facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.

From the company, which explains this far better than I ever could:

EVOLENCE dermal filler is made of natural collagen, one of the most prevalent materials in your body. The advanced collagen in EVOLENCE has been naturally cross-linked, so it mimics the 3-dimensional structure of your skin’s own collagen. This allows it to integrate beautifully and support your skin’s own existing collagen network by adding structure, strength, and volume for a natural look and feel that last.

The unique collagen of EVOLENCE:

  • Achieves immediate, natural-looking results, so you can walk out of your aesthetic professional’s office looking beautifully refreshed
  • Causes minimal-to-no swelling or bruising, so you can get right back to daily activities
  • Last for at least 6 months so it is convenient and reduces costly repeat visits
  • Does not require a skin pre-test, so you can get results in 1 visit

This dermal filler has been used successfully for many years over in Europe, Israel and Canada. The dermatological community is very excited that the US had finally given the FDA approval for this revolutionary product.

As the tag line suggests, could this be the new collagen?

Cleanser Search: Doctor’s Dermatologic Formula.

I have been trying three different cleansers form the Doctor’s Dermatologic Formula - otherwise known as DDF.

DDF is a dermatologist skin care line from Dr. Howard Sobel, the renowned New York City dermatologist and dermatologic cosmetic surgeon who has been a leader in his field for more than 25 years. Dr. Sobel combines modern technology with cosmetic skin care.  Dr. Sobel was one of the first Doctor’s to pioneer this union of cosmetic dermatology and topical skin care when he founded this skin care company.

The DDF Cleansers are made specifically to address the needs of different types of skin. I have been testing the DDF Cellular Cleansing Complex, DDF Glycolic 5% Exfoliating Wash and the DDF Non-Drying Gentle Cleanser.

DDF Cellular Cleansing Complex

image

“A luxurious, hydrating daily cleanser formulated with enzymatic exfoliators.  Sweeps away make-up and impurities while retaining essential moisture.”

I really like the thicker cream of this and the smell is quite nice. I find that it does not lather at all, it just sort of melts away dirt and makeup, leaving my skin feeling fresh, clean and not dry at all.

DDF Glycolic 5% Exfoliating Wash

image

“A combination of ultra-pure glycolic acid blended with skin conditioners to sweep away dirt and debris.  Minimizes appearance of fine lines and look of pores while increasing overall skin radiance.”

This is a gel wash that does have a bit of a foaming action. It is heavily scented with a menthol like smell, which can be refreshing, if you don’t mind the heavy smell. This cannot be used around the eyes, so an eye makeup remover is needed in addition to this one for removing eye makeup at the end of the day. This wash leaves my face feeling extraordinarily clean and fresh, but I have been using it just once or twice a week.

DDF Non-Drying Gentle Cleanser

image

“A gentle cleanser specially suited for dry or mature skin types.  Effectively removes impurities and environmental pollutants.  A unique cocktail of humectants provides superior moisture-retaining properties helping to leave skin moist and hydrated.”

Out of all of the DDF Cleansers I am trying, I think this is my favorite. This is a thicker cream than the Cellular Cleansing Complex, and it coats my skin and seems to almost melt into my skin as it removes makeup and such. There is virtually no smell to this one, and I really appreciate how moisturized my face feels after using it. It is perfect for night time when more moisture is needed to lock in with a night cream overnight.

There are five more cleansers in the DDF line-up, but I think I picked the best of the bunch for my skin care needs. Visit the site to order online or see which cleanser might be best for you. If you give one a try or are a user of the DDF products, let me know in the comments.

The Dangers of Mixing Medicines.

Here is a little word of advice from me, take it as your Public Service Announcement.

Really, when you notice on your prescription label that you should ask you doctor before taking other medicines with it, following that warning. Always ask your doctor or even your pharmacist about drug interactions - both over the counter and prescription.

Pills
Image details: Pills served by picapp.com

We had a very unexpected death of a family member this week because of this very thing. And the scary part is that this young girl was a nurse. Even nurses are not exempt from making a careless mistake. She took a prescribed medication with an over the counter cold medicine and she did not wake up in the morning after taking them.

Looking at her 3 year old daughter made me realize how important this is and I will be cautious - maybe over cautious when taking any kind of medication now. And I urge you to do the same.

I NEED This: StriVectin Neck Cream.

Because the StriVectin-SD Eye Cream did such a wonderful job on my eye area, I really think I need to give this a whirl. Well, I jsut don’t think it. I know it. I NEED this StriVectin Neck Cream.

image

$90 for the 1.4 oz. jar is not all that bad if this product lives up to the Klein-Becker standards that I am used to.

StriVectin® Neck Cream visibly firms and tightens the neck area, reducing the appearance of sagging skin to improve the look of the neckline and décolletage. It also evens skin tone and discolorations.

The cream is made with a proprietary combination of ingredients that will leave your skin looking soft and smooth with a feeling of gentle tightening.

I know this is a pretty new cream, but if you have tried it out, please do let me know what you think about it.

Happy Birthday Baby Girl!

My baby girl is 13 years old today. I CANNOT believe it. Two teenagers in the house - someone help me!!!

I totally remember having her, three weeks early to boot.  The night before I had Caci (pronounced casey), her Godmother came over as she was going away on business for a week. She made me promise that I would not have her while she was gone. I told her I would not because I still had at least a few more weeks to go. She then called me first thing that morning to remind me of my promise. I swear, within that hour I started contracting and soon made my way to the hospital (my first labor was just under 3 1/2 hours, so I was nervous). It was about 9:00 A.M. when I got to the hospital with regular contractions that were still pretty far apart, but I was admitted because I was 7cm already. I delivered Caci Lynne at 10:10 A.M. So, Auntie Lori had a phone message at her destination when she arrived.

Two things I learned (and am learning) from this - I don’t keep promises very well. And to this day, I still do not. I also learned that my labor was so fast and pain free because my newly crowned teenager is going to drag out the pain for years! Teenage girls are very difficult to raise. Too much to worry about - I swear! *But I wouldn’t change a second of it.*

Love you, Doodles!

Women Squander up to $23,000 and 58 Days During Lifetime Removing Unwanted Hair.

While I usually just don’t post press releases and such, but I found this so very interesting, that I thought I should share it with you. Remember that it comes from American Laser Centers and they are recommending their laser treatments of course. But I will say, if anything makes me consider this procedure, this study and statistics certainly do.

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. –June 23, 2008 – American Laser Centers, the largest provider of laser hair removal and other noninvasive aesthetic services in the U.S.,   today announces the results of a May 2008 Zoomerang hair removal survey that found women spend more than $10,000 on hair removal products and services over the course of their lifetime.

Survey respondents reported they will spend more than 58.4 days removing hair from their bodies during their lifetime.  The survey also revealed that women remove unwanted body hair for an average period of 53.6 years using methods including shaving, waxing and depilatory creams.

While women report a small monthly spend on shaving, $15.87 per month, the lifetime investment for females who shave adds up to $10,207.

Depilatory cream- or lotion-users are paying slightly more than those who shave for their hair removal, $10,555 through their lifetime, yet they only remove hair one to two times per month.

Waxing is by far the most expensive form of hair removal.  While respondents reported waxing only one to two times per month, women who wax will spend an average of $23,000 on hair removal in a lifetime.

American Laser Centers conducted the hair removal study to determine the cost savings benefit of laser hair removal verses a lifetime of shaving or waxing.  On average, women can save $7,000 by receiving laser hair removal on the areas of the body they typically shave.  When compared to a lifetime of waxing, women can save $20,000 by receiving laser hair removal on the areas of the body they usually wax.

“As people are more time crunched than ever, laser hair removal has evolved into a lifestyle decision for our clients,” said American Laser Centers Corporate Medical Director Dr. David Turok.  “Like Lasik surgery for contact and glasses wearers, laser hair removal is a decision to free yourself from one of the most mundane processes in your life – hair removal.  When performed by American Laser Centers trained professionals, laser hair removal is safe, effective and painless.”

In addition, laser hair removal is a procedure that will help conserve water.  Fifty-two percent of women surveyed reported shaving with the water running the entire time.  Women surveyed reported an average shaving time of 10.9 minutes and an average of shaving 12 times per month.  With the average shower using five gallons of water per minute, this means the average woman will use 7,848 gallons each year and a total of 420,652 gallons of water shaving throughout their lifetime, nearly enough water to fill an Olympic-size swimming pool.  Only 2 percent of women shavers do not use water when shaving.

American Laser Centers offers laser hair removal services in most major cities including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Phoenix and San Francisco. For more information about laser hair removal and to find an American Laser Centers clinic near you, visit www.americanlaser.com. American Laser Centers will conduct approximately two million treatments each year at its more than 220 locations across the country.

Interesting, don’t you think? I cannot fathom how much I have spent on waxing, creams, razors, etc., though I mostly do it myself.

If anyone has had laser hair removal, please speak up and let us know your results in the comments. Good or bad - we want to know!
