Aging Hipsters and Losing a Pet

I’m always on the lookout of blogs that think like me… not always easy, but I have another one to share with you. It’s called Aging Hipsters and today’s entry is about what it is like to lose a faithful pal… a dog in this case named Maxwell. The posting is understandably sad, but sweet at the same time and most of us by now, will be able to understand what it is like. A few years ago, we lost our guinea pig named Spook. He was a jet black, long haired guinea pig with an orange stripe running down his back. He reminded us of Halloween and thus… his name.
For a tiny guinea pig, he had an attitude that we often laughed about. He was babied more than any pet needs to be if that is possible. We even had a babysitter come in each day while we were on vacation. Yes, every day… so that he wouldn’t be lonely. We even left his cage open for the entire time we were away so that he had lots of area to roam. And that cage… it was hand built so that he had lots of room to explore and then a sleeping area for privacy. But what did all of this pampering get us?? Attitude. Each time we returned from vacation, he would ignore us for about a week as if he was telling us that we had a lot of nerve going on holiday and leaving him behind.
But we loved Spook and the day he passed away, was crushing. For all of our pampering, he did live longer than most guinea pigs (according to the vet) and he certainly had us wrapped around his little… paw. We have often looked at other guinea pigs in pet stores, but we will never be able to find one like Spook, but lately, Britt and I are contemplating a dog. Just have to talk Britt’s Dad into it.
Someday…
