Aging Fabulous

Bigger Breasts.

by Teri on June 1st, 2007

Seriously. I wonder what the heck is going on with women in general. Have you noticed that women have bigger breasts nowadays?

breastsSo, I just came back from Las Vegas, and did some serious people watching. My hubby and I agreed that we have ever seen so many bigger breasted women. Like he thought, it used to be that about one in thirty women had bigger breasts. Now it is like one in thirty women that have smaller breasts.

I am wondering if plastic surgery is just so affordable that so many women are getting bigger breasts through breast augmentation. Or is it via those silicone inserts? Push-Up Bras? Or could it simply be the fact of hormones being injected into our foods and women are just growing up with larger breasts?

I always thought that I had bigger breasts, I am in a D - Cup, but larger breasts do run in my family. But everywhere I look, the younger women are busting out all over.

Why do we so concentrate on breast size in this country, anyway?

Heterosexual men are obsessed with breasts, and many women ‘cave in’ to their demands, attitudes, etc. I guess I’m in the minority: I would like mine smaller.

Fake is cheap now. :) And more acceptable - even the really young gals are doing it…

I was watching a news program on how many of these implants only have a life of ten years in the average body. I wonder if this is brought up to the patients when they are making the consideration. I could not imagine having to have a new *pair* put in place every ten years or so.

Don’t forget all the hormones and fortification our food goes through - have you seen how big strawberries are these days? That can explain some of the changes you see. Also, birth control pills work by making the body think its pregnant. Some of that shows up as the breast enlargement that might normally be found during pregnancy.

Society definitely values big breasts, otherwise why would so many women be getting augmentations. And while it’s imortant to feel good about yourself no matter what size your breasts, hips, bum, lips, etc. are, unfortunately, not everyone is happy with what they’ve been given. So what is important in my opinion, is that we as a society support an individual’s right to feel good about themselves no matter how they choose to do it (within reason of course) - whether it means with cosmetic surgery, an exercise class or a push-up bra.

In a similar vein, I came across an interesting site called defineyourself.ca which addresses the issue of growing older and what choices women make around it, in terms of cosmetic enhancement.

Hi! Interesting post…and I have a couple of thoughts on it. I think one reason that we’re seeing a surge in breast implants is that it has become a new (and disturbing) status symbol (See Housewives of Orange County for an example).

Another thing to keep in mind is that you were here in Las Vegas. There are a lot of….um…”entertainers” in this city and after having lived in several parts of the country and now living in Vegas, I’d definitely say that there’s a higher-than-average rate of silicone around here!

Great point, Jazmin. I didn’t think about it in that way. What astonished me was that most of the larger breasted were girls that barely looked to be 21.

Alison - I agree - ultimately, we all have to be happy with ourselves and what we have, no matter what we choose.

Rhea - Yes, men are obsessed with the size of breasts, I knew that just from my husband.

Raven - I am trying to make a point of buying hormone free products (like in Milk), because of these reasons too.

Christina - I wonder how cheap fake really is - in the long run? ;)
