Boomergirl: community for baby boomer women
Newspaper columnist Cathy Hamilton was chronicling a personal account of the adventures and misadventures of being a woman over 50 in a weekly column called Boomer Girl Diary for a local newspaper when she began searching online for a community of baby boomer women. What she found was there was not much to be found. And so, Boomergirl was born.
Boomergirl, created for boomer women, born 1946 to 1964, is a community-based website offering beauty, fashion, family, finances, fitness and health advice; information of all sort and the latest news; blogs written by Boomergirl staff and members; clubs to join; hot tip of the day, Brain Boost; and a daily Spanish lesson. You can find well-written editorials and virtual flashbacks into the past.
Boomergirl can be counted in as complementary company to BoomerWomenSpeak and Eons, all geared with a format for readers 50-plus. If you are a baby boomer, give Boomergirl a look. Although new to the internet, its aim looks to be comprehensive and I predict, will grow community fairly rapidly. After all, there is an estimated 77 million baby boomers in the U.S. alone. The youngest is now 43, and the oldest is 61. A baby boomer turns 60 every seven seconds, and this trend will continue for almost two decades to come.
That the internet is not flooded with blogs, social networks and websites focused on, and written by, this age demographic is currently a mystery to me. I suspect it is only a matter of time before we will see an influx of individuals and groups representing the baby boomer generation. Boomergirl is genius that way.
If you have a boomer-focused blog, website or social networking group, introduce yourself in the comments and leave a link. We would be delighted to meet you.

Hi! I have a blog that’s for baby boomers: The Boomer Chronicles. I am based in Boston and a longtime journalist. My blog is for boomers and others because I do a lot of stuff of boomer stuff, but then I do a lot of weird stuff. Seriously weird. But fun. Always fun.

Thanks so much for mentioning http://www.boomerwomenspeak.com. We’ve been addressing the needs of boomer women online since 2002. We’ve also launched the National Association of Baby Boomer Women, http://www.nabbw.com. I invite all women at midlife who are passionate about this stage to join us.

I have been visiting this blog and decided that I can continue to learn a lot and hopefully can contribute a lot to the dialog. But first, I want to be up front about my intentions. I am associated as a technical liaison with a new web site called the http://www.Over60Exchange.com. This web site was originally created to cater to the needs of “seniors over the age of 60,” and is now being expanded to include “Boomers, Seniors, and those who fol-low.”
We recognize that many individuals who reach the age of 60 are not physically, mentally, or financially prepared to enjoy the so-called “Golden Years.” In order to meet the challenges we face in these days of great uncertainty, many Boomers and Seniors need to re-examine how they approach and solve problems. Over60Exchange is developing guidelines to help Boomers and Seniors evaluate and evolve their current “mind-sets.” Those who are willing to engage in critical assessments of current mind-sets can observe and/or participate in online forums focused on “per-sonal reinvention.”
I invite you to check us out at http://www.Over60Exchange.com. And remember, we are evolving this web site. You can watch the progress and offer suggestions. Then, when we are ready, you can participate in “Personal Reinvention.”
I look forward to your comments and suggestions.
