Hump Day Health: Beating the Cold.

by Teri on February 6th, 2008

When I feel a cold coming on, I swear I almost immediately reach for the Vitamin C chewable’s and Zicam. And while I feel that they may help me feel better or shorten the severity and duration of my cold symptoms (or whether it is just in my head!), I read a great article today that contradicts my theory. It has left me wondering.

Joy Bauer, famed nutritionist seen weekly on The Today Show, says that the best way to beat a cold is by naturally boosting your immune system through exercise.

Dodge a Cold with Exercise, is a must read post over on Yahoo! Health.

What are your “beat the cold” tips?

Green tea! Clears the head and soothes the throat at the same time.

My very best tip is wash your hands every time you pass the restroom and try very hard not to touch your face. That is how most colds are spread so not getting them in the first place is the key! After I get a cold, just lots of liquids and tough it out.

Yeah - working out makes me feel much healthier. But I know if you do extensive amount of cardio, your actually more inclined to catch a cold. And I totally agree with the above comment; washing your hands is the best way to prevent colds. Nice article.

Washing hands is definitely a must, and I think I need to try that Emergin-C.

I totally forgot about Green tea being an immune booster (and overall soother when sick). I need to order more for my Keurig.
