It’s Only Hair!
“Geez people. It’s only hair!”
I think I must have said that phrase at least fifty times this weekend. You see, I was in need of a change. And when I feel like I need a change, I usually do something to my hair. I guess I wanted a big change, because the change is pretty dramatic, if I say so myself.
First, there was the haircut. I cut about 4 inches off the back of my hair, so it was a shoulder length bob. Most of the layers were cut out and evened up, so it looked nice, and straight, and it was not even that noticeable.
Then, I did some low-lighting. I actually painted on light golden brown streaks into my very light golden blonde hair. It looked nice, except for the ends of my hair that were so porous that the color absorbed too darkly. To correct this, I had to cut off another inch or so. But I liked it.
After a few days of this look, I decided to take another plunge. It was not dark enough, and my change was not as dramatic as I hoped. I wanted Kate Walsh deep reddish brown hair. And with the help of Clairol’s Natural Instincts #26Hot Cocoa, a Medium Bronze Brown, I have the color I have dreamt of. It picked up a lot gold, which I knew it would, so the end result is that of Kate Walsh.
My kids are freaking out. I am not the blonde Mom they have known all their lives. And I swear, my husband passed by me for a second, looking for me before doing a double-take to realize that this bronzed hair maven was indeed his wife. It’s only hair!
Today, my husband said that this dark color did in fact complement my skin tone and make my hazel eyes appear more green, he was just not happy that I cut my hair. Seems the fact that my hair was much shorter than it was a few days before is the root of his problem - with MY HAIR! It’s only hair!
Everywhere I went, I had comments - a lot of them positive. I just did not know that my dramatic hair change would provoke so much conversation! It will grow! It will change color again! And I am sure I won’t be able to keep the highlight brush down too long, so by the end of the week it will probably be a bit lighter.
Seriously - it’s only hair!
