Too Young for Facial Injections?
I am 40. And while I have some wrinkling, not too much to be played with just yet (in my opinion), I am getting a bit of sagging. I have some sagging under my eyes and my jowls are really starting to give in to the forces of gravity.
I have been researching some injectable’s that can lift and tone these parts of my face.
Artecoll-
This is a solution containing polymethylmethacrylate micro spheres. It is injected beneath the skin and the micro spheres are trapped by the bodies of collagen fibers to gently lift and support the skin. Artecoll is most likely the longest lasting, with reports of it lasting up to 3 years.
Hylaform-
This viscoelastic gel is made from a naturally occurring material (hyaluronan) that provides support and cushioning with the skin. Injected in similar fashion to Collagen but does not require a skin test.
Radiesse-
Radiesse is a solution containing Hydroxyappetite micro spheres. The solution injected beneath the skin and the micro spheres are encapsulated or trapped by the bodies collagen fibres and they gently lifting and support the skin, while helping the skin actually form more collagen. This one is said to last 1 - 3 years.
So, what do you think? Am I too young? Am I too caught up in this? Lastly, please comment if you have had any of these fillers, and your experience with them.

Noooooo! Don’t do it Teri :) You have gorgeous skin and an amazing face—so pretty. No need for injectables yet!

I think if it makes you feel better and the cost isn’t prohibitive, go for it. I haven’t had any fillers yet; frankly I’m more concerned about my neck. It seems to be sagging a little, and I don’t know what works for a saggy neck. BTW, I’m 51 but generally have good skin.

I agree with Jo–if it is something that is really going to make you feel better about yourself and the cost isn’t too high, then definitely look into it. However, for the first time you might want to consider one of the hyaluronic acid gels (Juvederm, Restylane, Hylaform) since they only last 6 months–that way you can see if you like the effect or not. Personally, the non resorbable gels (Artefill/Artecoll, Radiesse) scare me a little bit because they’re less “natural” but I’m sure they’re perfectly safe. I’ve read that Artefill can last a really long time. There’s also a filler called Sculptra, which is used mostly to treat hollowing of the face.

Well, I’m only 26 and I’ve eyeballed injections, so that answers your age question….BUT….injections are freaky at any age! Put aside the frightful idea of having a foreign substance floating around your face and realize that there isn’t a single injection out there that doesn’t have a possible risk of ruining your face’s natural layers of skin and muscle. ::shiver:: Provided, nothing in this world comes without risk, but some risks aren’t worth taking.
Before going through any of that, I’d recommend trying a facial muscle exerciser. Tua Viso (sp?) makes one that costs around $200 and a few other companies out there make them, but I’m not sure of the cost. Recently, a woman on the Rachel Ray show used it and was very pleased at the results and I believe she was in her late 50s. I’m sure you can check the show’s website for more details.
