What Are Your Aging Concerns?

by Teri on November 1st, 2007

I worry about so many things when it comes to aging. Naturally, I worry about my health, and I am sure you do too. But I am wondering about our somewhat superficial concerns, like breasts sagging, dry skin, cellulite, wrinkles, age spots, vericous veins, etc..

Tell me in the comments what you are most concerned about - I guess I am looking for your appearance concerns, when it comes to aging. I am trying to gauge some posts and want to explore more of what you are looking for.

I worry about everything that has to do with aging. My biggest concerns are wrinkles, gaining weight, and having my hair fall out. Other things I worry about are cellulite (already have it), sagging skin (I swear my arms are suddenly jiggly), vericose veins, droopoy eyelids, turkey neck, and any and everything! Oh saggy breasts, age spots are concerns too!

My main concern is wrinkling and loss of elasticity. I am 38, already have forehead furrows and am seeing the genes showing up in the form of pre-jowl syndrome and occasional turkey neck.

    UGH!

The only other concern might be age spots on the hands. I haven’t seen any yet but my grandmother looks like a giraffe. My mother, on the other hand (ha!) is flawless. My mother also never tanned. Smart smart woman and I wish I had listened to her!

    Lip lines
Eyes: under eye hollows, dark circles, puffiness
    Furrow between the brows

Hair loss!!! I lost half of my hair in less than a year. I’ve seen a doctor and used minoxidil with very little improvement. So now, I am being realistic and just looking for products to give me a temporary fix for those special occasions when a hair piece would get in the way ;)

The irony of facial hair is almost, but not quite funny. My friends have had laser treatments, but I have very light hair and tan skin and was told it wouldn’t work for me. My skin gets so red, so easily these days, I don’t want to wax. What now?

I am glad to hear that you are seeing a doctor. I worry about hair loss as well. My mother had very thinning hair, and with all the treatments I subject my hair to, I hate to even think of where I will be in ten years or so. Ugh.

Let me know if you find something that works.

I’ve been researching hair loss for several years, but haven’t been able to “cure” my own problem yet. There are all sorts of non-permanent reasons for hair loss, such as a thyroid disorder, low iron, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (if you have facial hair, I would look into this), extreme stress, etc. I haven’t written in detail about hair loss yet, but there is a hair loss blog I would recommend checking out - http://www.womenshairlossproject.com/ I’ve also been to a lot of doctors and had blood work done. Most doctors are not knowledgeable about hair loss, so I’ve found I need to be really proactive about it, and do my own research.

Greatest superficial fears: jowls, turkey neck, deep bags under eyes. Greatest serious fears: health problems, especially cancer and stroke

I worry about slowing down. I’m very active now and for the past five years, and I’m chronically ill (SLE), so that worries me.

I also worry about my fertility. The doctor says I’m good to go for a first child, but the clock is ticking for me. I’m planning to start in the next six months with my much younger SO.

Lastly, because I do have a younger SO, albeit by seven years, I worry about looking old and haggard. I’ve noticed a few wrinkles and I have these horrendous eye things, not quite bags, but furrows or something. Ugh! If I could just afford thermage right now…

At 40 years old I’m worried about having a third miscarriage. My husband is ten years younger but would rather see me happy and healthy than to have a child. I was 36 and miscarried after 5 weeks of pregnancy. We pursued fertility treatment till 2005. The drugs made me very emotional & strained our marriage. At 39 I was blessed with unexpected pregnancy that also failed after 9 weeks. Now we use timing as birth control because the pill does not agree with me. The older I get the more unpredictable my cycle which makes our method unreliable…any suggestions? I can’t fathom another loss.
